MTS are the proud operators and maintainers of the M1 Northwest and Bankstown Line with the new City section now operational. We run a fully automated passenger railway – an Australian first.  We connect our customers to opportunities that matter to them while delivering the next generation of rail travel to Sydney. With global expertise, we manage 51.5km of track and 21 stations, with a planned expansion into southwest Sydney.

About the Role  

We have an opportunity for an experienced and strategic Head of Corporate Affairs to join our People, Culture and Corporate Affairs team.

Reporting to the General Manager People, Culture and Corporate Affairs, this pivotal leadership role will lead a small team in delivering our corporate communication and stakeholder & community engagement activities in line with contractual obligations and client deliverables. 

This hands-on role will be instrumental in delivering media responses, internal and external communications, brand compliance and fostering strong client stakeholder relationships.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Deliver the communication strategy for MTS incorporating the contractual obligations, the MTS Plan and Stakeholder and Community Involvement plan.
  • Lead the delivery of internal and external communication, including media, government and stakeholder relations, corporate social responsibility, including planning and delivery of customer and community events, branding and MTS marketing and content.
  • Lead and manage all corporate events, speaking platforms and conferences, ensuring best practice is adopted in support of MTS's key stakeholders.
  • Lead and manage the 24/7 on call comms and media function
  • Be part of the on-call roster, providing incident communications to the MTS crisis event team and key external stakeholders, including Sydney Metro Authority and media
  • Lead crisis communication efforts to effectively manage potential reputational risks.
  • Lead the daily monitoring, prompt reporting and analysis of media and key internal stakeholders, Metro Trains Australia, shareholders, and other relevant external stakeholders are briefed on emerging and current media issues. 
  • Lead brand compliance across all touchpoints and provide leadership on brand and branded content, including website and collateral.


Skills And Experiences

About You 

You are a dynamic communications and/or media professional with extensive demonstrated experience navigating complex infrastructure and/or government environments. Transport experience is preferred. You will bring your knowledge and experience and add immediate value, driving a corporate affairs and communications strategy while fostering strong stakeholder and client relationships.

With superior verbal and written communication skills, you have extensive experience in managing media and crisis communication events and always have a positive can-do mindset coupled with resilience and strategic thinking.

This role will also lead customer and community engagement events, promoting the brand and the positive impacts of our expanding network.

You will be required to work across our two sites in Tallawong and North Sydney in this hybrid/flexible role.
